Transforming
The Food Future Foundation is dedicated to reshaping India’s food landscape through innovative, sustainable practices that benefit both the planet and its people. Our multifaceted approach addresses the complexities of the food system, from production to consumption, aiming to create a healthier, more equitable future for all.
Driving
We prioritize initiatives that place individuals at the heart of food system transformations. By empowering communities with the knowledge and resources to make informed food choices, we foster environments where sustainable diets are accessible and desirable.
- Developing Vision: India Food System Vision 2030 Report in July 2022 laid the groundwork for a comprehensive understanding and strategic vision towards sustainable food systems.
- Mobilizing Collective Action: The Foundation is leading the Coalition for Food Systems Transformation in India (CoFTI) aimed at transforming India’s food systems, fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders to drive sustainable and equitable food solutions. CoFTI’s efforts are pivotal in uniting expertise and resources to address pressing food system challenges, ensuring a healthier and more sustainable future for all. For More Visit CoFTI Website
- Developing leadership for Food System Change: The release of the “Eat Right: Food Systems Approach” textbook in 2020
- Recognition and Encouragement: The National Awards for Sustainable Sourcing, introduced in 2020 and 2021, celebrated industry efforts in natural farming and sustainable practices.
- Benchmarking and Research: Collaborations for benchmark studies and the pioneering household food waste study in 2021-2022, aimed at improving industry standards and reducing food waste.
Support for Nutritional Programs: Strategic inputs for national-level rice fortification and technical support for the fortification of Peanut-Jaggery Chikki in Andhra Pradesh are notable contributions towards nutritional enhancement.
Enabling Shift
Recognizing the power of early education, we’ve developed curricula and programs aimed at instilling food literacy from a young age. Through partnerships with schools and local governments, we’re shaping the next generation to value and practice sustainable eating habits.
- Life Skills and Food Literacy programme: The Life Skills and Food Literacy program is designed to empower students and communities with the knowledge and skills necessary for making informed food choices, promoting nutritional health, and understanding the environmental impacts of their dietary habits. This comprehensive initiative plays a crucial role in shaping sustainable eating practices and fostering a deeper connection between individuals and their food systems. - Engagement with Educational Leaders: Workshops for school principals and the successful rollout of the Life Skills and Food Literacy program at Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram, highlight the Foundation’s efforts in embedding food literacy into education.
- Partnerships for Youth Engagement: Collaborations with the Bharat Scouts and Guides to introduce food literacy badges for young scouts and guides demonstrate the Foundation’s commitment to youth education on healthy diets and food sustainability. This is aimed to inspire young individuals to learn about and advocate for sustainable food choices, emphasizing the role of youth in driving change within their communities and beyond.
- Partnerships with the State Governments: The food literacy curriculum for schools in Rajasthan and Karnataka, developed in collaboration with the Nourishing Schools Foundation, has reached over 1.4 million students, fostering early education on healthy diets. Collaboration with the Government of Andhra Pradesh would integrate life skills and food literacy into the educational curriculum, setting a new benchmark for holistic health education in schools.
